Baby Steps

Well, we're not back in the hospital yet, so that's a good sign! Mom's having a few new symptoms that are a nuisance, and it's hard to know if she's just hypersensitive to every little thing her body feels, or if they're significant of something else. As my mother puts it, she's never been so focused on just what's happening between the tip of her head and her baby toe as she is now, so sometimes it's hard to know what to make of certain feelings. For example, she's having back pain. Is it her left kidney flaring up? Or is it the price she's paying for three nights in an uncomfortable hospital bed? She feels short of breath sometimes, even at rest. Does she have an infection or atelectasis, or is it because she literally, has been sitting around for four weeks?

She's going to call Super Nurse Judy this morning just to check in and let her know about her progress and these new symptoms. We'll have to see what she says.

Otherwise, she continues to nibble on some food about every hour to keep in some good calories and stimulate her non-existent appetite. Last night she had some of Tommy's Shepperd's Pie, a bite of salad, and a bit of bread. Baby steps, I keep telling her.

Nibble, nibble, nibble is the way to go - a.k.a grazing. Some say it is the healthiest way to eat, as it keeps the body nourished at a steady level, rather than punching it up with three squares a day. Maintains good blood sugar, etc. Hey, millions of grazing animals can't all be wrong. They look healthy enough, especially to us omnivores!

I'm glad she is focused on herself from head-toe. She needs to do this. Liz is the expert at focusing on others and the bright side of life. Now she needs to shine that beautiful light inwards. She's commented with surprise at how I seem to know more about how my body works and how its various functions interact and affect one another - more than anyone she's ever met. I think this is a good thing, as long as one doesn't obsess. I'm encouraging her to do more of it herself. I feel much healthier for it.

Liz/Babette talked via speakerphone with her sisters Natalie, Stephanie and I the evening of her meatloaf meal. She joined us all in singing Happy 16th Birthday to her nephew Kip.

She'd had a rough day emotionally and had asked for no calls or visitors. She took the time she needed to sort out some negativism, some troublesome issues, had a great nap and felt sooo much better.

Nick, she's looking forward to your visit!

Cherish that back-pain Sweets...

It's there to remind you that you lovingly carried your two little baby daughters around alot...you had that same pain back in those days.

And if your toes start to hurt -- well that's probably going to be because every once and a while you may have dropped one of those two fabulous daughters on your foots.

CoCoClaudeBubbs is right... everybody from Alpacas to Zildebeest think that "lunchtime" is all the time. Loooove, us.
